Gallup: 60% of Adults Disapprove of Obama's Handling of Economy

A new Gallup poll finds that only 36% of Americans approve of Obama’s handling of the economy. 60% disapprove. This rating is far lower than the past three two-term presidents at this point in their first term. This single issue could make it hard for Obama to get his overall job approval rating where it needs to be to be assured of a second term.

On the issue of the “federal budget/deficit”, though, Obama actually scores lower. Only 30% of Americans approve of the job he is doing. He also scores low marks on “creating jobs” (37% approve) and immigration (38% approve.)

Obama’s marks are higher on issues like foreign affairs, education and terrorism. Unfortunately for Obama, almost no voters will be casting their ballot on these issues in November. The economy, jobs and federal spending will dominate both the campaigns and voters’ consideration. On all these issues, less than 40% approve of Obama’s performance.

Keep in mind, too, that this is a poll of adults, not yet registered voters. There is a well-established Democrat bias in polls of adults. Limiting the survey to registered or likely voters would likely paint a bleaker picture for Obama.

Over the next two and half months, the media will use its considerable resources to prop-up Obama. But, it may be that the floor collapses underneath them both.
