Harry Reid: Fiscal Cliff Deal Must Include Raising Debt Ceiling

In addition to raising taxes on those making over $250,000, Harry Reid and President Barack Obama want to raise the debt ceiling as part of the fiscal cliff negotiations.

Reid on Tuesday said raising the debt ceiling must also be included in any fiscal cliff deal because he did not want to negotiate separately with Republicans over the debt ceiling six weeks later.

“We would be somewhat foolish to work out something on stopping us from going over the cliff and then a month or six weeks later Republicans pull the same game they did before and say, 'We're not going to do anything — unless this happens, we're not going to agree to increasing the debt ceiling,’” Reid said.

Reid also insinuated Obama felt the same way when he said, "I agree with the president, it has to be a package deal."
