WH Releases Picture of Obama 'Skeet Shooting'

Today, the White House released a photo of President Obama "skeet shooting" in response to doubts raised to his claim that he "does skeet shooting" regularly at Camp David.

In the picture, Obama is wearing sunglasses. Shooters wear glasses for safety reason, but it is unusual to have very dark lenses in shooting glasses. Shooting at a clay target is like shooting at a flying aspirin tablet. At a distance, the targets are small and move fast, any sort of visual impairment is a detriment to breaking your target.

Obama is shooting a 12 ga. over/under which is fairly popular for the target sports and Obama appears very comfortable using the (his?) shotgun. Many people who are new or infrequent shooters lean backwards when they shoot, in an attempt to steady themselves against recoil from the gun. The President has good form, his head is in the gun, solidly on the stock. Many new shooters don't rest their head on the gun stock, they keep a little distance to avoid the recoil from shooting the gun.

It is a little unclear what game the President is shooting. Most of the target sports take place on a field of some kind. In this picture, the houses (where the targets are released) and/or shooting stations aren't visible. It looks like he may be shooting at hand thrown targets rather than shooting an actual game with a set target presentation.

Whether or not this picture will satisfy skeptics of Obama's gun-cred, remains to be seen.
