President Obama announced on Monday that he’d be visiting crime-ridden Chicago – his hometown, and the domain of his former chief of staff Mayor Rahm Emanuel – to talk about gun violence. Tomorrow, President Obama is slated to give his State of the Union Address, which will undoubtedly be an ode to gun control and a heartstring-tugging rendition of the “NRA is evil” chorus.

In Chicago, Obama will likely paint a different view: the city has been doing a stellar job with its gun legislation, it’s just victimized by guns from outside the cities, and therefore requires federal legislation. That’s the only way Obama can shift blame for gun violence from the city’s gun control policies and onto law-abiding gunowners.
