Reid: Cruz a 'Schoolyard Bully' for Opposing Taxes

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), offended that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has not deferred to the establishment old guard, called Cruz a “schoolyard bully” on Monday right before Reid promptly cut Cruz off while the freshman senator was speaking. 

As The Hill noted, Cruz, “concerned that the conference report–which cannot be filibustered–would be used to raise the nation’s debt ceiling,” asked Reid to “amend his motion to go to conference to make out of order any provisions raising taxes or raising the debt ceiling.”

Reid found the notion absurd. 

“My friend from Texas is like a schoolyard bully,” Reid then said. Reid, who often employs the Senate’s arcane rules, said Cruz “pushes everybody around and is losing”; he complained Cruz was not “playing the game according to the rules.”

Cruz replied, “I wasn’t aware we are in the schoolyard.”

Reid then angrily cut him off by saying, “enough.”
