White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer took to ABC’s This Week to defend the Obama administration’s actions in the aftermath of the Benghazi terrorist attack of September 11, 2012. In the process of doing so, he came out in full-fledged battle mode for UN Ambassador Susan Rice. “Frankly,” he said, “I think many of the Republicans have been talking about this, now that they’ve seen the e-mails, owe Ambassador Rice an apology for the things they’ve said about her in the wake of the attack.”
When host George Stephanopoulos asked what Republicans should apologize for, Pfeiffer answered, “For accusing her of misleading the country, for saying that she somehow was involved in some sort of political whitewash of what happened there.”
It is now absolutely clear that the Obama administration was involved in shaping and crafting the talking points given to the American public by Rice in the aftermath of the Benghazi attacks to downplay the organized terrorist nature and al-Qaeda involvement of the attacks.
The administration has steadfastly held by the line that the talking points were changed by the CIA without administration input, a contention that the emails released by the White House itself show is problematic.
