Disgraced IRS Chiefs: IRS Needs More Money

In their attempts to shift blame and evade clear answers to questions about the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups, disgraced former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman and disgraced former Acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller both said that what the IRS really needs are more people and money to function properly.

“The last couple years the Congress has not been funding the IRS sufficiently,” Shulman complained during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing.

However, according to the IRS’s own website, “The Administration’s fiscal year (FY) 2013 budget request for the Internal Revenue Service is approximately $12.8 billion, a $944.5 million increase (8%) over the FY 2012 enacted level.”

Still, said Miller, what the IRS needs is more agents and “a bigger budget” in order to ensure that the IRS stops harassing and targeting conservatives based on their political beliefs.

As of the end of 2012, the IRS had 97,717 employees.
