On March 31st, “pro-gun reform” legislation cleared the Kentucky House of Representatives and is now sitting on Governor Steve Beshear’s (D) desk, awaiting his approval.
The central piece of legislation–House Bill 128–will “allow retired peace officers with a valid Concealed Deadly Weapons License (CDWL), in accordance with the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), to carry at all times in Kentucky, with an exception for detention facilities.”
HB 128 passed the state Senate by a vote of 37-1 and the House by a vote of 92-6.
According to NRA-ILA, “Amendments added to HB 128 in the state Senate have incorporated [various other] pro-gun reform bills,” resulting in an entire package of pro-gun legislation now awaiting Governor Beshear’s signature.
Among the other bills are Senate Bill 100, which would allow CDWL “applicants to submit their forms electronically,” Senate Bill 125, “which would allow honorably discharged service members to waive the training requirement for a concealed deadly weapons license,” and HB 351, which “would allow an individual who has legally sought a court-issued Emergency Protection Order (EPO) the ability to better defend themselves by expediting the permitting process for a CDWL, after a background check.”
