Barbara Boxer Denounces GOP Benghazi Investigation, Praises Hillary Clinton
California Senator Barbara Boxer denounced Republicans for investigating the terror attacks in Benghazi and praised Hillary Clinton for her reaction to the incidents.
Boxer took the Senate floor on Tuesday and labeled the House Select Committee on Benghazi a “sham,” a “political witch-hunt,” a “kangaroo court,” and a “waste of taxpayer dollars.” She also suggested that Republicans were only concerned with hurting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ahead of the 2016 elections.
“We don't need to spend money on another committee because someone is afraid of Hillary Clinton's candidacy,” she said. “Just deal with it, okay? Don't try to revise history.”
Boxer praised Clinton’s response to the attacks, reminding Republicans that the former secretary of state was the first to call for an independent investigation.
“She was the first person to call for an independent investigation and begin to put the pieces into play that would, in fact, make sure this didn't happen again,” Boxer asserted.
Boxer also criticized Republicans for calling the attacks a scandal.
“They want to make Benghazi into a scandal, and they're the scandal. That's the scandal--playing politics with a tragedy,” she stated angrily on the Senate floor.
Boxer reminded Republicans of multiple terrorist attacks around the world where Americans were killed, but she insisted that the Democratic Party never used it for political gain.
“Why would we exploit a tragedy, where an American got killed, for political gain?” she asked, adding, “We could have done it."
Boxer also denounced Republicans for their eagerness to investigate the attacks in Benghazi, though they did not look into the scandal of the Iraq War.
“They’re not going to investigate the tragedy and the scandal of more than 4,000 Americans killed in the Iraq War based on phony intelligence,” she said.
