The Chicago Way: Gun Prosecutions Down, Push For Gun Control Up Under Obama

While the Obama administration and Senate Democrats were talking tough on guns in 2013, federal prosecution for gun crimes was plummeting.

According to The Washington Times, “federal prosecutors brought a total of 5,082 gun violation cases in 2013…compared to 6,791 brought during the last year of George W. Bush’s presidency in 2008.”

And if compared to the year 2004–when there were 8,752 prosecutions–the lax number of federal prosecutions in 2013 represents “a 42 percent decline” from Bush’s high point.

Yet the push for more gun laws–for more gun control–continues.

Breitbart News reported on this same phenomenon in March 2013, when “the national press corps” listened and reported on the cries for more gun control in places like Chicago while not pointing out that Chicago was “dead last in enforcement of gun laws against gangs with guns, felons with guns, [and] drug dealers with guns.

Throughout the Obama administration’s gun control push the NRA has repeatedly said the problem is not a lack of new gun laws, but a refusal to enforce the gun laws we already have.
