Sinbad: Tina Fey's Palin Impression Helped Obama Win in 2008

Sinbad isn’t the first performer who comes to mind when you think political humor.

But Sinbad knows enough about modern culture to realize the impact comedy can have on the political scene.

Just take the 2008 presidential election, a time when Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impersonation received wall to wall media coverage. Sinbad says Fey’s shtick was more than just an ordinary laugh-getter. It had a palpable effect on Election Day:

Though comedy, he thought, played a big part in the McCain/Palin ticket not succeeding. “I actually think ‘Saturday Night Live’ actually affected that whole presidential campaign and Tina Fey just happened to have that resemblance to Sarah Palin,” he said.

Is it any wonder comedians generally hold their fire when it comes to President Obama?
