BATEFLIX LETS YOU SEARCH FOR NUDITY IN NETFLIX

Tells you something about our culture that the article takes the position that this feature is a net-plus because it helps you find nudity as opposed to helping parents avoid it.

‘RED ROSES’ TO PREMIERE MAY 3 ON OWN: OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK

I don’t want to wait until May 3rd…

“65 Red Roses” takes an unflinching look into the life of Eva Markvoort as she battles a fatal genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). At 23, Eva needs a double lung transplant to live. Unable to be around other patients with the same disease, Eva turns to the internet where she forms a strong connection with two American girls, Meg and Kina, in different stages of CF.

…I want to experience the pleasure of not watching this today.

STARZ ORIGINAL SERIES ‘BOSS’ TO LAUNCH SECOND SEASON AUGUST 17

Hopefully, this means the first season will receive a DVD release later this summer. I’ve only seen the premiere episode, which was brilliant, so I’d love to see the rest.

Pretty amazing how quickly Kelsey Grammer is able to make you forget all about Fraser Crane, a character that was a part of the American pop culture landscape for twenty years. He won a Golden Globe for his “Boss” performance, and from what I saw in that single episode, he most certainly deserved it.

‘SEINFELD’ ‘SOUP NAZI’ REUNION: JASON ALEXANDER TEAMS WITH THE SOUPMAN

In my quest to lose 25 pounds (5 to go!), I’ve been watching my “Seinfeld” DVDs while working out; so about three episodes a day. I’m into season six and am just amazed at how well the genius and humor holds up. It’s hard to believe the show premiered almost 20 years ago, but equally hard to believe, especially in this day and age, is how a show about nothing talked about everything, including politics and social issues, without ever being insulting or divisive.

EARLY BUZZ: FIRST REACTIONS FROM ‘THE AVENGERS’ HOLLYWOOD PREMIERE

As of now reviews are embargoed until May 2, but Twitter reactions are out and glowing.

Not “a” bomb, but “the” bomb.

‘DARK KNIGHT RISES’ IMAGES FEATURE BAT-PADS, NEW BANE COSTUME, & MORE

I’m still not over that Catwoman costume.

SONY DEVELOPING ‘EDGIER’ REBOOT OF ‘SABRINA, THE TEENAGE WITCH’

What is it with Hollywood and “edgy?”

Just once I’d like to read a headline that says something like:

Sony Developing More Sincere, Traditional, Heartwarming Version of….

Edgy is boring.

Edgy is the new hokey.

LUC BESSON’S FIVE GREATEST FILMS

No “From Paris with Love”?

WINSLET’S ‘TITANIC 3D’ BREASTS CENSORED IN CHINA

Now that’s a great headline.

WALMART STORES TO CONVERT DISCS TO DIGITAL

This service begins April 16:

Wal-Mart Stores on Wednesday gave reporters a preview of its Disc to Digital service, which allows owners of DVDs to bring their favorite discs to a Walmart outlet and, if they can be matched with the titles of some 4,000 titles to which Walmart has secured rights, they’ll be able to stream them online to their computers, settop boxes, or mobile devices. Walmart will then stamp them on the label side so that they cannot be passed on to someone else who wants to do the same thing. The “conversion” costs $2.00 per disc for standard definition; $5.00 for HDTV.

All the majors except Disney are participating.

Very curious to see how this is going to do.

Considering the abject and not completely unfounded fear of streaming Hollywood has, I’m surprised the studios signed on to this. Okay, it is one way to squeeze a little more revenue out of DVDs already purchased, but will anyone ever buy another copy of a film once they own a digital copy?

Plus, this is just another step towards the customers getting used to, comfortable with, and hooked on streaming.

20 OF THE BIGGEST SCI-FI CINEMA DISAPPOINTMENTS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS

I don’t know, I kinda dug “Alien Resurrection” and “Godzilla.” And I out and out loved “Alien Vs. Predator,” “I Am Legend,” and especially “Species.”

Okay, I also enjoyed “Judge Dredd.” Just don’t tell anyone.

COINSTAR RAISES FINANCIAL FORECAST AS REDBOX DVD RENTALS BEAT EXPECTATIONS

And Hollywood weeped.

I’m not happy Hollywood is making less money, I just love that their stupid 28 day waiting periods aren’t working.

Anything that gets Hollywood to wake up and improve the quality of their product is a good thing.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Gene was sort of stuck with me by [MGM boss Louis B.] Mayer, but he worked really hard with me. He was a taskmaster, and I worked really hard. I had five dance teachers, including Fred Astaire, who was doing a picture on the next stage. So with everybody’s help, I became a dancer. We’d dance 15 to 16 hours a day, with only Sundays off. My first day on the picture, my feet were bleeding afterwards. But when I look at the performance now, I’m very pleased.”

CLASSIC PICK FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 13

TCM:

7:45 AM EST:  Royal Wedding (1951) —  A brother-and-sister musical team find romance when they tour to London for Elizabeth II’s wedding. Dir: Stanley Donen Cast:  Fred Astaire, Jane Powell, Peter Lawford.  C-93 mins, TV-G, CC.

Though justifiably most famous for Astaire’s dazzling dance-on-the-ceiling number, “Royal Wedding” as a whole is a terrific piece of entertainment.
