Thursday Call Sheet: George Washington In 'Unforgiven'?

BOND'S LATEST GIRL, BERNICE MARLOHE

Yowza. One thing the Bond reboot has done very well is its casting of  Bond girls. They have all been perfect. The key is finding a womanly woman, not these girls we see everywhere else -- these girls who could pass for 14 year-old boys. .

MICHAEL MADSEN RETURNING FOR 'SIN CITY 2'

Just last week I caught "Species" again and was reminded of how charismatic Madsen is. It really is too bad he came of age in the era of the meterosexual, otherwise I think he would've been a much bigger star.

‘AMERICAN IDOL’ PLANS DICK CLARK TRIBUTE TONIGHT

I wish I had more memories of Dick Clark, something I could write as a tribute, especially because he was someone so engrained in American popular culture. But music has never been my thing, nor were game shows or the others kinds of television Clark did.

I do know he was a very, very savvy businessman and that he meant a lot to many people, including my wife.

RIP.

MARTIN SCORSESE, LEONARDO DICAPRIO COMMIT TO ‘THE WOLF OF WALL STREET’

Eventually they'll make a decent movie together.

NETFLIX TO STREAM ALL 10 NEW EPISODES OF ‘ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT’ AT ONCE

Brilliant move. This is how we want to watch TV now--like it's one big feature movie.

MEN AT WORK MUSICIAN GREG HAM DEAD AT 58

Remember these guys? One monstrous hit album in 1983, which I still own, and not much since. A friend and I drove to Chicago to see them that summer. I don't remember anything about the music, but I do remember the speeding ticket.

ARONOFSKY TO DIRECT ‘UNFORGIVEN-STYLE’ FILM ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON

Worth keeping an eye on:

Par is exclusively eyeing the project under its first-look deal with Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures banner. If the studio doesn’t close a deal in the next couple of days, others get a shot — and interest is expected to be high, with Aronofsky coming off the $329 million worldwide gross and awards success of “Black Swan.”

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources tell Variety that the script is more of an “Unforgiven”-like tale rather than a straight historical drama.

Actually sounds pretty promising.

THE COMPLETE 2012 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL LINEUP

All the movies no one wants to see in one place.

ANTHONY HOPKINS IS BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE HITCHCOCK

Impressive. Hopkins also looks the right age.  I think Hitch was about ten years younger while making "Psycho" than Hopkins is now.

DEMI MOORE: LOOKING GOOD

You all know I don't comment on or ridicule or take any pleasure in the trials and tribulations surrounding the personal lives of stars. Gossip rags are worse than the entertainment media, which, coming from me, is saying a lot.

It's just good to see Demi Moore looking healthy again.

It's also a relief to know Michael Douglas is feeling well enough to go back to work.

'ATTACK THE BLOCK’ & ‘THE ORPHANAGE’ DIRECTORS IN TALKS FOR ‘CATCHING FIRE’

Two terrific films thanks mainly to the directors behind them. Both deserve a promotion.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

We may be seeing the end of an era dominated by ability of Leftist comedians like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher or the cast of SNL to create a false image of a political figure. Perhaps the trashing of Sarah Palin was the high point of their power, just as Watergate was for the MSM.

Ridicule is the most potent political weapon. Obama is rapidly looking less and less like a President and more and more like an inept pol who’s also something of a doofus.

LAST NIGHT'S SCREENING

Minority Report (2002) -- Always watchable and about this close to being great.

Five Cruise flicks arrived in the mail the other day. Absolute steal.

I don’t care what anyone says, Tom Cruise is pure, 100% movie star and I hope he lives forever.

CLASSIC PICK FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 20

TCM:

3:00 PM: Diary of Anne Frank, The (1959) -- A young girl comes of age while hiding from the Nazis. Dir: George Stevens Cast:  Millie Perkins, Joseph Schildkraut, Shelley Winters. BW-180 mins, TV-PG, CC, Letterbox Format.

Amazing film in every sense of the word. George Stevens avoids all melodrama, casts a spell, and then breaks your heart. The widescreen black and white photography won an Oscar as did the set design. Shelly Winters threw off the glamour and won one, as well.

A real triumph everyone should see. One of those movies that works so well and feels so real, you hope against hope the movie gods will decide to work their magic and have it end differently.
