Aussie Airline Thriller Delayed Due to Malaysian Flight Similarities

Ripped from the headlines projects can yield big ratings. Some headlines, though, can be too tragic to serve as creative springboards–even if the project in question began before the tragedy in question.

The folks behind the Aussie thriller Deep Water are putting their film on hold due to some “uncomfortable similarities” between it and the apparently doomed Malaysian flight MH370.

The film, a sort-of sequel to the horror film Bait 3D, follows a plane which crashes into the ocean while en route to China. The flight’s survivors are left to battle shark attacks while waiting to be rescued.

Out of sensitivity to the Malaysia flight situation, we’ve decided to put it on pause for now,” Gary Hamilton, managing director of Arclight told THR at the Asian industry tradeshow Filmart in Hong Kong.

The film’s tag line certainly stirs up unfortunate, and unintended, parallels:

Survivors of a plane crash face terror beyond reckoning as the plane is starting to sink into a bottomless abyss and soon discover they’re surrounded by the most deadliest natural born killers on earth.
