Last Friday, the Democratic National Committee sent out a memo to reporters and declared that the word of the month for May to describe the GOP’s reaction to the Obama administration’s scandals was “overreach.”
The memo highlighted at least seven stories from progressive publications that framed the GOP’s response this way. Sure enough, the mainstream media bought the spin over the weekend, writing more stories about the GOP’s supposed “overreach.” Several reporters and columnists then amplified the “overreach” theme on Twitter, which will most likely prompt even more stories.
As Twitchy documented, mainstream media transcribers–like Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post–took to Twitter to parrot the DNC’s talking points. One person (@JustKarl) on Twitter perfectly described what was happening–“Dems say ‘Jump!’ MSM asks how high”:
