Report: Israel Attacks Weapons Convoy Heading from Syria to Lebanon
Reports indicate that up to 12 Israeli jets took part in attacking a weapons shipment from Syria to Lebanon on Tuesday.
It is not known whether the weapons were conventional or chemical, only that Israel wants to keep both out of the hands of Hezbollah.
As recently as Sunday, Israeli Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom had warned that any shipment of weapons to Hezbollah "would [cross] a line that would demand a different approach" than Israel had taken heretofore.
A Western diplomat is confirming that there was a strike "in the border area," and intimating that it was a strike on a weapons shipment but is not offering any other details.
