British Jets Deployed to Lithuania amid 'Rising Tensions with Russia'

On April 28th, four British fighter jets from RAF Lincolnshire deployed to Lithuania to carry out “NATO’s air policing role of the Baltic states.”

According to the BBC, the jets are Typhoons and will join “six Polish jets” to relieve a “US squadron [and] patrol the alliance’s eastern flank.”

This rotation of military jets is not new, but it has “been stepped up in response to rising tensions with Russia over Ukraine.”

“Only last week Typhoons based at RAF Leuchars in Fife intercepted two Russian bombers flying in international air space off Scotland.” The Russian planes “turned away shortly afterwards.”

The typhoons deployed on April 28th will be “joined by more than 100 RAF support staff in Lithuania.”
