Islamic State Selling Oil And Gas to Iraq From Conquered Land

Islamic State is taking oil and gas products from land it conquered in Syria and selling it to Iraqi businessmen.

According to Alarabiya.net, “ISIS has captured large swaths of territory in Syria and Iraq, including all of oil-rich Deir Ezzor province’s oil fields in eastern Syria.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) says “trucks with Iraqi number plates have in the past few days traveled to Deir Ezzor’s oil fields from Iraq, to fill up and transport oil toward western Iraq.”

SOHR says the trucks belong to Iraqi businessmen who are “[buying] oil from fields under ISIS control.”

The Iraqi businessmen are able to buy the oil for $20 to $40 a barrel. ISIS is also selling oil at discounted prices to Syrians living on ISIS-conquered land, as a way to secure support.
