#Denied: NCAA Won't Allow Akron to Put Twitter Handles on Jerseys

The NCAA has denied the Akron men’s basketball team’s request to put the team’s Twitter handle (@ZipsMBB) on the back of its jerseys for Saturday’s basketball game.

Akron is holding a “Social Media Night” on Saturday and the floor will have the hashtags “#ZipsGameday” and “#ThinkBigger” painted on it.

“Our Men’s Basketball Twitter handle, @ZipsMBB, will not be on the backs of our jerseys when we play on @ESPNU at 5 p.m. Saturday,” Akron basketball said in a statement. “We had asked the NCAA if this was permissible and were told it is not. @ZipsMBB will appear on our shooting shirts, and we have planned plenty of other social media activities and promotions.”

Akron has won 11 straight games and is undefeated in league play. They face Ohio on Saturday.
