ACC Champion Miami Wins Big

Miami became the fourth consecutive tournament champion of a power (BCS) conference to look excellent in their opening game. The ACC champion Hurricanes joined Louisville (Big East), Mississippi (SEC) and Oregon (Pac12) in taking momentum from a conference tournament run through a very impressive opening round game. Kansas (Big 12) and Ohio State (B10) play Friday night.

Point guard Shane Larkin (pictured) missed his first two shots, then decided to start passing instead. He set up Kenny Kadji for a layup to make it 5-4 Miami, then dished out two more assists to make it 14-7. He later drove and kicked for two three-point shots to make it 25-11 Miami with 12 of the points coming off of his assists.

By the time he hit a three-pointer late in the first half it was 33-11, and Miami was prepping for the next round, as Larkin finished with nine assists for a 78-49 win over Pacific.

Durand Scott led the Hurricanes with 21 points and Reggie Johnson led with 10 rebounds.
