Blackhawks First Team to Clinch Playoff Berth

The Chicago Blackhawks are the first NHL team to clinch a berth in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They beat the Nashville Predators 5-3.

The Blackhawks have been the best team this shortened season, but now they can officially say they are in the playoffs. More than likely they will be the favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

Andrew Shaw, Bryan Bickell, Brandon Saad, and Jonathan Toews scored even-strength goals while Patrick Kane finished the game with an empty net goal. Saad and Toews scored 55 seconds apart in the third period. Goalie Ray Emery made 19 saves.

Nick Spaling, Shea Weber, and David Legwand scored for the Predators. Pekka Rinne made 35 saves.

The Blackhawks have 62 points with a record of 29-5-4. The Pittsburgh Penguins are close behind them with 58 points.

The Stanley Cup playoffs begin on April 30.
