QB Option: RG III Stands Up NBC, Bails on WH Correspondents Dinner

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, whom an ESPN commentator once referred to as "cornball brother" because he has a white fiance and may be a Republican, reportedly bailed on Saturday's White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington.

Media reporter Howard Kurtz tweeted that Griffin was supposed to be at NBC's table at the dinner, but he decided to skip the meal.

The annual dinner has become more celebrity-laden in recent years, and news veterans like Tom Brokaw and Ron Fournier have criticized the gathering for not only being tacky but being out of touch and flaunting Washington's excesses while the rest of the country struggles economically. Others, like New York Times writer Mark Leibovich, have noted journalists at the annual dinner congratulate themselves while being oblivious to the fact that the rest of the country does not hold them in high regard.
