Creighton-Toth Head to SD4 Runoff - Most Bond Issues Win
After a long night waiting for ballots from remote areas to come in, Texas State Reps. Brandon Creighton and Steve Toth head to the June runoff election. Toth narrowly edged out Woodlands, Texas businessman Gordy Bunch for the 2nd place runoff spot.
After 100 percent of the votes were counted, Creighton secured the first place finish with 45.18 percent of the vote (13,705). Toth finished second with 23.71 percent of the vote (7,193) and Bunch was at 21.8 percent of the vote (6,612) a mere 581 votes out of the runoff spot. Former State Senator Michael Galloway (R-SD4) finished a distant third with 9.29 percent of the vote (2,818).
An interesting question was raised as to whether Rep. Toth will follow his own advice for candidates, trailing after the first round, to withdraw from the runoff. In the March 4th Republlican Primary, State Rep. Dan Branch finished 2nd to Senator Ken Paxton. The margin in that race was 44.4 percent for Paxton compared to 33.5 percent for Branch. Rep. Toth was one of fourteen representatives reported by Breitbart Texas to have signed a letter asking Branch to withdraw from the election because “moving forward with this continued campaign is not in the best interest of you, our party, or the state we know you dearly love.” The margin of victory in last night’s special election was much wider than the Paxton-Branch race–45 percent compared to 24 percent.
That seems unlikely however as Toth told the Houston Chronicle last night, “We’re excited. This is how we thought this was going to turn out. The people of Senate District 4 want to continue this conversation.”
In other election results from the May 10th election, with the exception of Travis County, according to the Quorum Report, most school district bond issues including the $1.2 billion Cy-Fair ISD and the $775 million Frisco ISD passed. The Cy-Fair bond passed with 69% of the vote while Frisco’s bond passed with 77 percent of the vote. The Frisco ISD bond were both previously reported on by Breitbart Texas.
