President Obama will reportedly introduce an executive action plan on immigration as early as next week. The plan is expected to apply to millions of immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally.
A source close to the White House told Fox News that the plan, which is contained in a draft proposal, is composed of 10 parts and will overhaul U.S. immigration policy. It could be announced as early as next Friday, the source claimed.
One of the 10 initiatives outlined in the plan could give millions of illegal immigrants a deportation reprieve through “deferred action,” according to Fox News. Deferred action would be given to illegal immigrants who either came to the U.S. when they were minors, or who are parents of U.S. citizens. About 4.5 million illegal immigrants have given birth in the U.S., thereby making their children citizens.
The plan would also aim to increase border security and increase the pay of U.S. immigration authorities in order to “increase morale.”
Deferred action will additionally be expanded for your people. According to Fox News, all illegal immigrants who entered the country before they were 16-years-old and were under 31-years-old as of June 2010 will be eligible. Nearly 300,000 illegal immigrants are expected to receive deferred action under this program.
Democrats in Congress appear to be supportive of Obama taking executive action on immigration.
Rep. Juan Vargas, D-Calif., told Fox News, “We’re begging the president. Go big. These [illegal immigrants] are a plus to our nation. Mr. President, please. You said you were going to do something. Do it. Act now.”
“I join with my colleagues in urging the president to take action,” House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer added. “What he needs to do is give immediate relief to families who are being wrenched apart and living in fear.”
