SC Representative Proposes High School Second Amendment Curriculum

South Carolina state Representative Alan Clemmons (R-107) is proposing the “Second Amendment Act of 2015,” an act which would create a three-week course on the Second Amendment for high school students and would designate December 15 as “Second Amendment Awareness Day.”

WMBF News reported that Clemmons introduced the legislation as a way to “change the zero tolerance policy South Carolina schools have toward guns.” Clemmons said, “The Second Amendment should be freely debated in schools and instead the Second Amendment is being squelched in our schools.”

He said if we continue down the path we’re on, “the Second Amendment will cease being a freedom enjoyed under the United States Constitution.”

The Second Amendment Act would empower the state superintendent of education to “[develop] the three-week high school curriculum using the National Rifle Association as a resource.”

MSNBC’s News Nation asked if this was really just “NRA curriculum,” and reported that “opponents argue the entire Constitution and Bill of Rights should be taught” and that Clemmons’ proposal would “nullify educators.”
