Deportations Under Obama Forecasted to be Lowest in a Decade

As the immigration debate continues to polarize the nation, the Obama Administration is on course to have the lowest number of deportations in a decade.

An estimated 236,000 deportations are expected by the end of September, the end of the government fiscal year. This puts the Department of Homeland Security on course to have the lowest number of deportations since 2006, when they only deported 207, 776 aliens, an investigation by the Associated Press revealed.

The diminishing number of deportations comes despite a shift in human smuggling routes that sent hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to the Rio Grande Valley. This created a humanitarian crisis due to DHS lacking the facilities to house so many detainees. Breitbart TexasManaging Director Brandon Darby put a national spotlight on the detention issue last year by leaking photographs of migrant children packed into cramped tiny detention areas.

The diminishing number of deportations also comes at a time when Obama’s Department of Justice is fighting 26 states in federal court over the implementation of an execitove amnesty measure ordered by the President. As Breitbart Texas previously reported, a federal judge has temporarily halted the President’s amnesty program with an injunction, and admonished the Justice Department for making false statements to get around the injunction.

Homeland Security is current averaging 19,730 deportations per month since the start of the fiscal year in October 2014. Breitbart Texas was there when Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson visited the U.S. Border Patrol station in McAllen late last year, to announce new enforcement standards focused on identifying and deporting aliens with criminal records.

Johnson didn’t mention this policy would discourage agents from enforcing immigration laws against illegal immigrants without prior criminal convictions. That issue was brought to light by Breitbart Texas’ Brandon Darby, who again published a leaked series of memos instructing agents to ignore various areas of immigration law.
