New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan, a Democrat, thinks the federal government should stop accepting Syrian refugees, WMUR reports.
Hassan joins several other governors – mostly from GOP-led states – acting to block the taking in of more Syrian refugees in her state following the terrorist attack in Paris where one of the alleged terrorists was embedded in the refugee program.
“The Governor believes the federal government should halt acceptance of refugees from Syria until intelligence and defense officials can assure that the process for vetting all refugees, including those from Syria, is as strong as possible to ensure the safety of the American people,” a statement read.
WMUR reported, “The governor said she and state emergency management officials are working with Homeland Security officials, the FBI and local police departments in taking necessary precautions to protect the safety of New Hampshire residents.”
Hassan is running against incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte.
