A Florida woman was arrested for attacking her sleeping husband for passing gas in bed, police say.

Dawn Meikle, 55, was arrested after allegedly attacking her husband Donald Meikle at around 3:20 AM on December 11. Her husband told police she began to vigorously elbow him as he slept and eventually got violent enough to kick him out of bed.

“(Meikle’s husband) stated he continued to pass gas, at which time Dawn began kicking him and eventually kicked him out of their bed,” a police affidavit says.

The husband said he restrained the irate women “for her own safety,” during which time she received a split lip and he received scratches on his chest.

The woman apparently admitted her actions to police.

“Dawn stated when (her husband) did not stop passing gas she began elbowing and kicking him,” the affidavit continued.

After her husband restrained her, the incensed wife told police she broke free and ran to the bathroom then called 911 to report that she was being abused. The report also says that at some point she “sprayed pepper spray in the air to keep Donald out of the restroom.”

When first responders arrived, both parties refused treatment and neither went to the hospital.

Despite her claim of abuse, Meikle was charged with misdemeanor battery and was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.
