The CEO of the Duck Commander, a West Monroe, Louisiana-based duck call and sporting goods empire, spoke to the delegates of the Republican National Convention as a man of faith and family and put the night’s National Security theme in the perspective of the everyday American.

“When you grow up with rednecks, there are some occasional disagreements and sometimes those disagreements turn into fisticuffs,” said Willie Robertson. “But, anytime I was in a bad spot, I always knew my brothers had my back.”

Robertson said these situations were on his mind when he decided to endorse Donald J. Trump for president. “Today, in a lot of ways, in a lot of ways, America is in a bad spot and we need a president, who will have our back.”

Trump was looking out for everyday Americans at home, too, said the backwoods millionaire, who grew his father’s duck call company into a retail and entertainment powerhouse after earning his business degree at the University of Louisiana at Monroe–an empire that includes the cable TV reality show “Duck Dynasty.” The show follows the exploits of Robertson and his extended family running the business.

“I can promise you this, no matter who you are, Donald Trump will have your back,” he said. “Whether you are looking for a job or trying to grow a business like I am, Donald Trump will have your back.”

Delegates jumped up to cheer his next example, not only because of the subject of the Benghazi on program, but also because of the special prayer Robertson opened his talk with, when he asked the Lord for healing for his brothers and sisters in Baton Rouge. “If you’re a serviceman fighting overseas or a cop, who is risking their life to keep us safe at home, Donald Trump will have your back.”

Trump may not tell you what you want to hear, you may not always agree with him and he may not always be politically-correct, Robertson said. “But, when your father’s Phil Robertson–I’m used to that OK?”

The important truth is that Trump will talk to us truthfully, he said.

“Donald Trump will always, always tell you the truth as he sees it,” he said. “That is why we can trust him to ‘Make America Great Again’ as our next president.”
