President Donald Trump teased reporters about his decision on the Iran nuclear deal after meeting with Mahmoud Abbas in New York City.
“I have decided,” Trump told reporters repeatedly, as they asked him if he had made up his mind about whether or not he withdrew from the deal.
As reporters continued to press him for an answer, he added, “I’ll let you know what the decision is.”
Trump criticized the deal made by former President Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State John Kerry.
“The Iran Deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into,” Trump said during his United Nations speech on Tuesday. “Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States, and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it — believe me.”
Trump vowed during the campaign to end the Iran deal soon after taking office, but the decision has stalled after aides like National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have urged the president to be patient.
The president faces a deadline in mid-October to certify to Congress that Iran is complying with the deal.
He is aware of the decision, speaking about it with reporters last week.
“You’ll see what I’m going to be doing very shortly in October,” Trump said during a flight with reporters aboard Air Force One.
