One of two alleged armed suspects took a bullet to the liver when a Fayetteville, North Carolina, convenience store clerk opened fire Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old clerk, Bassam Albareti, saw the two alleged robbers approaching with masks on. He retrieved a gun and was ready when they entered the store.
According to WRAL, Albareti opened fire through “the glass that enclosed the counter.” The two suspects, identified as 19-year-old David Glenn Perry and 19-year-old Noah Lee Rowsey, dropped their gun and fled the scene.
Perry took a bullet to the liver. Police indicate that he called 911 afterward, claiming that he was the victim of a shooting.
Fayetteville Police Department’s Sgt. Shawn Strepay said:
One of the suspects actually went to a residence somewhere in the county and called 911, saying he had been shot. Throughout the course of our investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office investigating that [911 call], we were able to tie everything together and determine that, even though he was calling 911 saying he had been shot, claiming he was a victim, he was actually the suspect in our case.
Perry underwent one surgery to repair damage to his liver and may have to undergo another.
Rowsey was captured and is being held on $50,000 bond. Both men “face charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.”
