Breitbart News reported that Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety is funding a two day workshop in Phoenix to help journalists report on “guns and gun violence” more “effectively.” The NRA sounded a warning around the same time as well, but the Huffington Post says the NRA would be better served attending the conference rather than complaining about it.

According to the HuffPo, the NRA’s concerns over the workshop are misplaced “because attendees will actually hear from both sides in the gun debate.” What this means is there will be two pro-gun control speakers, Garen Wintemute and Philip Cook, versus one pro-Second Amendment speaker, CNN’s S.E. Cupp.

Wintemute is an ER physician in California who argued that the “only real use [of cheap handguns] was to arm people who wanted to commit crimes.” Cook is researcher who studies the “economic costs of gun violence.”

HuffPo doesn’t mention that the conference is stacked in favor of gun control, claiming instead that the NRA should just be happy that “one of their most ardent supporters,” meaning Cupp, will be allowed to speak at the conference.

Everytown for Gun Safety has already given $48,000 to the conference to help defray the cost for journalists to attend. The conference is May 29-30.
