Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown wondered if California Governor Jerry Brown is making plans to run for president in 2020.
“I had visitors from one of the TV networks they other day. They were putting together a piece on Gov. Jerry Brown, but I got the impression they were more interested in his national profile than what’s going on in California,” Willie Brown wrote in his weekly San Francisco Chronicle column. “When it was all over, I was convinced they were working up a profile of a possible presidential contender, rather than a swan song for an aging politician.”
Willie Brown has previously said that he believes Jerry Brown should run for mayor of San Francisco after Brown’s term ends.
“I don’t think Jerry Brown is ever going to call it a career. He mentioned that he still has $20 million in his campaign account, even though he’s termed out as governor after next year,” Willie Brown previously wrote. “Personally, I think he should consider running for San Francisco mayor in 2019. He was a great mayor of Oakland, and he might be the only politician alive capable of running this city.”
As The Hill recently noted, Jerry Brown “is the longest serving governor of California, holding office from 1975 to 1983 and then again from 2011 to present.” Breitbart News has pointed out that “earlier in the year, Jerry Brown left open another potential presidential run. He mentioned at a press conference that he will be 82 years of age in 2020 before saying, ‘don’t rule it out.'”
