Reading and Manchester United equalled the record for the most goals scored in the first half of a Premier League game after sharing seven strikes at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
A Wayne Rooney penalty put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute after Anderson had cancelled out Hal Robson-Kanu’s opener for Reading, only for headers from Adam Le Fondre and Sean Morrison to put the hosts 3-2 up.
However, Rooney tucked away Patrice Evra’s cross to equalise in the 30th minute before Robin van Persie put Alex Ferguson’s men 4-3 up by finishing from Rooney’s flick.
Only two other Premier League games have witnessed seven first-half goals — Blackburn Rovers’ 4-3 loss at home to Leeds United in September 1997 and Derby County’s 4-4 draw at Bradford City in April 2000.
