AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo could be out for the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right leg, the club said Friday.
Montolivo picked up the injury in training on Thursday, meaning he will miss Torino’s visit to the San Siro on Sunday.
Montolivo joined the Rossoneri from Fiorentina last summer and has been a valuable addition to Massimiliano Allegri’s squad, which is battling to hold on to third place and claim the final Champions League spot.
Milan said they would evaluate Montolivo’s condition “over the coming days”.
Champions Juventus, who hold an 11-point lead over Napoli with four games remaining, will successfully defend their title on Sunday if they claim at least a draw in Turin against relegation-threatened Palermo.
