Blake returns from injury with 200m win

Reigning 100m world champion Yohan Blake made a cautious but successful return to competition, winning a 200m race at a low-key meeting in his native Jamaica.

Blake, who ran out of lane six, was in control of the race, leading off the bend to clock a relatively slow 20.72 seconds in a wind of 1.6m/sec.

It was Blake’s first race since he pulled up with an injured hamstring in the 100m at the UTech Classic on the same Kingston track on April 13.

“Thanks be to God I finish the race” he tweeted after his return, adding minutes later: “Wow I also feel rusty in my race.”

Blake, the Olympic Games double sprint silver medalist behind training partner Usain Bolt, has a bye to the IAAF World Championships 100m in Moscow in August as the defending champion.

But he is expected to compete in the 200m at the Jamaican National Senior Trials, the world championships qualifier, in two weeks.
