American suspect in Czech family murder nabbed in US

A young American wanted over a quadruple murder in the southern Czech city of Brno has been detained at the Washington airport, Czech police said on Friday.

“Kevin Dahlgren, charged with quadruple homicide, was detained on Thursday evening,” regional police chief Leos Trzil told reporters.

He added the suspect had flown to Washington on a regular flight from Vienna.

The Czech justice ministry said it now had two months to ask for Dahlgren’s extradition.

Dahlgren, 20, is suspected of having murdered his Czech aunt, her husband and their two sons aged 25 and 16, according to Czech media.

The dead bodies were discovered late on Wednesday in the family’s house in Brno, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) southeast of Prague.

Two of the men were musicians in an amateur ukulele orchestra and the woman was a teacher, said the CTK news agency, quoting a singer with the band.

Media also quoted police officers as saying the murder was very brutal and was committed with several tools but no firearms.

Dahlgren’s Facebook page says that he is from Palo Alto, California and has been living in Brno, the Czech Republic’s second-largest city, where he offered English lessons.
