Ozzie Guillen was fired as manager of the Miami Marlins on Tuesday after only one season at the Major League Baseball club.
The 48-year-old Venezuelan was dumped after the Marlins went 69-93 this past season, finishing last in the National League East division – no replacement for Guillen was named.
“After careful consideration following the disappointment of the 2012 season, we decided to dismiss Ozzie,” Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said.
“Our managerial search begins immediately and our hope is that a new manager, along with roster improvements, will restore a winning culture.”
Guillen served as manager of the Chicago White Sox from 2004 through 2011, when he was released near the end of the season and two days later signed on with the Marlins, who sent two players to the White Sox in compensation for hiring Guillen while he was still under contract to Chicago for 2012.
