Police were on Monday investigating the discovery of two dead bodies in a swimming pool at a luxury country hotel in Essex.
Staff at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hatfield Heath, found a man, thought to be in his 30s, and a woman, believed to be in her 20s, on Saturday evening.
The couple had been staying together, the hotel confirmed.
Police said there was no evidence of foul play but were treating the deaths as unexplained. Post-mortem examinations were set to take place later Monday.
Hotel manager Chris Falcus said he was “devastated by this tragic incident”.
“As soon as the alarm was raised two of our team dived into the pool and did everything they could to try to save them,” he explained.
