Nantes back in French league

One of the most famous names in French football will be back in Ligue 1 next season after FC Nantes secured promotion to the top flight on Friday.

Nantes, who won the last of their eight titles in 2001, ended a four-year spell in Ligue 2 with a 1-0 win at home to Sedan.

The win sparked a mass pitch invasion at full-time from many of the 37,000 crowd at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Monaco, who won promotion last weekend to end a two-season spell outside the top flight, secured the Ligue 2 title by beating Le Mans 2-1.

Meanwhile, Guingamp, the Brittany club where Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda made their names a decade ago, also secured promotion with a game to spare.
