British plane makes emergency landing in Ireland

A plane carrying 323 passengers to Tenerife from Manchester made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport on Friday, reportedly after crew detected smoke in the cockpit.

The Thomas Cook flight bound for the Canary Islands touched down without incident at about 9:40 am, a spokeswoman for the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said.

All 323 passengers were evacuated from the plane and taken to the airport terminal.

The DAA’s full emergency response team was activated and backed up by at least a dozen fire and ambulance crews from Dublin.

“The aircraft was met by airport services as is standard procedures in such cases, but no action was required by them,” a spokeswoman for Thomas Cook Airlines said.

Neither DAA nor Thomas Cook confirmed the reports of smoke.
