Panathinaikos have sacked Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira, Greek sports websites reported on Wednesday.
An official announcement of the decision to fire the former FC Porto and Malaga coach will most likely be made Thursday at a press conference called by Panathinaikos boss Giannis Alafouzos.
The 66-year-old coach’s one-and-a-half year contract was to expire at the end of this season.
Reports said Panathinaikos have selected former Panathinaikos player and coach Juan Ramon Rocha as Ferreira’s temporary replacement. Argentine Rocha is currently coaching the club’s youth team.
Ferreira, who guided Porto to three Portuguese championships and two cups, was under pressure following a poor start to the season.
Panathinaikos are currently in sixth place with just 13 points from 10 matches, 15 points behind leaders Olympiakos.
They have also performed poorly in Europa Cup, garnering just two points from four matches.
