Rescue workers recovered the bodies of a 76-year-old woman and her two pet dogs after the car they were in plunged into a river at a ferry station in southeast Cornwall, a report said.
The woman and her husband had been waiting on the slipway at the River Fal, near Truro, to catch the King Harry Ferry at around 4.00pm, the Mail Online reported.
When the husband got out to take pictures the car began to move eventually falling into the freezing water, the report said, adding it was not known what caused the vehicle to move.
Devon and Cornwall Police said they were treating the incident as a ?tragic accident?.
The King Harry Ferry Company suspended their services, the report said. A search operation involving lifeboats and a Navy helicopter took some two hours to retrieve the car, the report said.
The service connects St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Feock, Truro and Falmouth.
