The Pittsburgh Steelers held on for a 16-13 over-time victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, despite losing quarter-back Ben Roethlisberger to a right shoulder injury.
Roethlisberger departed in the third quarter, after he was caught between two Kansas City defenders on the Steelers’ opening drive of the second half on Monday.
He threw for 84 yards and a touchdown before leaving the contest, with Byron Leftwich replacing him.
Shaun Suisham booted a 23-yard field goal less than a minute into over-time for the winning score.
Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop had sent the game into the extra session with a 46-yard field goal as time expired in regulation.
Kansas City had the first possession of over-time, but quarterback Matt Cassel was intercepted by Lawrence Timmons on their second play.
Timmons ran the ball back 23 yards and Suisham jogged out on the next play for the game-winning field goal.
Pittsburgh improved to 6-3 while Kansas City lost their sixth straight and fell to 1-8.
