Wambach scores twice as US rout China

Striker Abby Wambach reached 150 international goals by scoring twice as the United States women’s national team easily beat China 4-0 in a friendly.

Wambach, 32, needs just nine goals to beat the record for goals for US men or women held by Mia Hamm, who finished her career in 2004 with 158 goals in 275 games.

In front of a crowd of 15,643 at the BBVA Compass Stadium, Wambach scored her 149th goal in the 20th minute by heading in a perfect cross from Heather O’Reilly. She scored the 150th in the 63rd minute on a shot from the left side.

Since 2003 the US has had 16 wins, no losses and three draws against world number 17 China.
