British chief whip quits over foul-mouthed row with police

The British government’s chief whip, Andrew Mitchell, resigned Friday following a foul-mouthed tirade at police officers guarding the Downing Street gates.

Mitchell, a senior member of Prime Minister David Cameron’s Conservative Party and a former international development minister, admitted in his resignation letter that he used “bad language” towards officers.
