Three Dead After Gunman Opens Fire at Multiple Locations in Kansas

Three innocents are dead and approximately 14 wounded after a gunman reportedly opened fire in Excel Industries and other locations in and around Hesston, Kansas.

The alleged gunman — an Excel employee — was killed by police.

According to Fox News, Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said the incident began with the gunman shooing at individuals as he drove to Excel Industries and again in the parking lot of Excel Industries. There are numerous shooting locations. Walton said, “This is just a horrible incident. There’s going to be a lot of sad people before this is all over.” He said it will take time to investigate the numerous scenes, but as of now, the AP reports that Walton believes there are four dead, including the gunman.

KWCH identifies the alleged gunman as Cedric Ford and reports that his “Facebook page says he was a painter at Excel.”

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office released a statement:

Around 5 pm tonight, there was an active shooter situation that began around the area of 12th and meridian in Newton where shots were reported. There were also reports of shots fired at Meridian and Hesston Rd as well as an active shooter situation in Excel Industries. The shooter at Excel Industries has been shot and killed. There have been numerous shooting victims as well as some fatalities. Families are currently being notified by emergency personnel. We will update you with more information as it becomes available.

At 4:42 pm, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback tweeted, “Please send your thoughts and prayers to the people of Hesston tonight.”
