A New York City man is accused of slashing two women in the face on Manhattan’s Lower East Side Friday, authorities say.
Shawn Thomas, 30, allegedly lunged at a 60-year-old woman around 1:50 p.m. before cutting the woman’s cheek with a blade. About seven minutes later, he allegedly slashed a 57-year-old woman in the face, the New York Daily News reported.
“He just walked up and slashed them,” a police source said. “He didn’t say anything. There is no indication as to why he did it.”
Officers found Thomas about a half mile away from the sites of the two attacks in Lower Manhattan.
Both victims suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
A judge set Thomas’ bail for $350,000 at his arraignment hearing Saturday in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Police also busted Thomas, a Lower East Side resident, for marijuana possession and trespassing earlier in the week.
Slashing incidents in New York City are quite common, with many of the attacks occurring on the city subways.
In May 2017, a woman was accused of slashing the mother of a one-year-old after the victim tried to move to a different seat.
The month before, a Brooklyn subway passenger was slashed in the face and had to receive 26 stitches, and a man suffered serious injuries after a couple slashed him in the face and arm at a Queens subway station.
