The majority of Americans say that illegal immigration to the United States increases crime in their communities and neighborhoods, a new poll finds.

In the latest Harvard/Harris Poll, about 51 percent of Americans said crime is increased by illegal immigration pouring through the U.S.-Mexico border and an illegal alien population that has boomed to about 12 million.

The majority of American men, 52 percent, said illegal immigration increases crime, while nearly 60 percent of white Americans and voters living in rural areas of the U.S. said the same.

While the plurality of swing voters said illegal immigration has no impact on crime, about 4-in-9 swing voters said illegal immigration does increase crime. More than 3-in-10 Democrat voters said illegal immigration increases crime, while the majority of Democrats, 62 percent, said illegal immigration has no impact on crime.

Overall, only seven percent of Americans say illegal immigration reduces crime, including less than ten percent of liberals who say crime is cut by illegal immigration.

The poll comes as a number of American families in recent weeks have been forced to grapple with their loved ones being hurt or killed by illegal aliens.

Most recently, two underage teenage sisters were allegedly kidnapped and raped by four illegal aliens in Bowling Green Ohio, as Breitbart News reported. Two of the illegal aliens are on the run, while the other two are in police custody. One of those illegal aliens was deported from the U.S. four times.

The families of 33-year-old Sander Cohen, a Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office deputy chief, and FBI agent Carlos Wolff, 36-years-old, have  been in mourning as both men were killed by an illegal alien from Guatemala, Breitbart News reported.

The illegal alien responsible for the death of Cohen and Wolff, 28-year-old Roberto Garza Palacios, received a mere $280 fine for causing the deadly accident.
