Democrats on the Oversight Committee are spitting mad at Chairman Issa because he has subpoenaed a top Administration technology official who is working to fix ObamaCrash. They’ve written a “blistering letter” demanding that he withdraw the subpoena.
The Hill reports that Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) accused Issa of hurling “unfounded accusations” against Todd Park, the administration’s chief technology officer.
“The evidence before our Committee demonstrates that Mr. Park is an honest and exemplary public servant, and your unsubstantiated public attacks against his integrity are a deficient basis on which to justify a subpoena against him,” Cummings wrote with Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.).
Cummings said Issa’s subpoena was “diverting Mr. Park’s energies” from his work and could “seriously impair” the race to repair HealthCare.gov.
Appearing on Fox’s America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer, House Oversight member Trey Gowdy (R-SC) defended the move by saying,”if the president has time to play golf (which he does), and Kathleen Sebelius has time to go to cocktail parties (which she does), then Todd Park ought to have time to come tell the people he works for, why they got such a poor product after spending over a half a billion dollars in three years.”
When asked if he expected to see the spending go even higher, Gowdy answered scathingly, “well if they want the product to work, they’re going to have to because the first half a billion dollars didn’t get the job done….to say it’s a trainwreck is an insult to trainwrecks.”
He told Hemmer what he hoped to discover at the hearing: “I want to know why we were promised a state of the art website and we got an abacus and a sundial. I want to know what we got for our money, I want to know if this thing can be fixed in two months, and why didn’t you (Park) have it up and running in the three years you had prior to October 1…” He continued, “if this guy is the smartest guy in the class – and I’m told he is….he’s a savant of sorts – why is he just now getting involved? Where has he been for the past three years?”
The Hearing, “ObamaCare Implementation: The Rollout of HealthCare.gov” is set for Wednesday, November 13, and will question five Administration technology officials on “what went wrong, what they’re doing to fix it, and whether recognized IT best practices were really followed.”
